Square Fan Stitch

Square Fan Stitch

This stitch creates adorable fan shapes that form little square frames, a gorgeous repeating pattern perfect for breezy tops, wraps, and anything with that effortlessly elegant vibe.

Starting Chain

Chain a multiple of 18 + 4.
Start in the 7th chain from hook.

Row 1

Work a fan cluster: (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) all in the same stitch.
Skip 2 ch, dc in the next ch.
Skip 2 ch, work a fan cluster, skip 2 ch, dc — repeat across.
Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn.

Row 2

Work a fan cluster in each ch-2 space, dc on top of the dc of the previous row — repeat across.
End with a dc on top of the turning chain.
Ch 3, turn.

Row 3

Work a fan cluster on the ch-2 space of the cluster, dc on top of the next dc.
Ch 2, dc on the ch-2 space, ch 2, dc on top of the next dc — repeat this step 2 times.
Alternate between the fan cluster and ch 2 sections across the row.
End with a dc on top of the turning chain. Ch 3, turn.

Pattern Repeat

Repeat Row 3 three more times.
Then repeat the sequence: Row 1 → Row 2 → Row 3 (four times).
Continue alternating this sequence until desired length is reached.
